Summary:

From the first time Hawk saw her, he knew he wanted to do dirty things to her in his bed.

Hawk, the muscled, tatted, badass Vice President of the Insurgents Motorcycle Club, sees women as bed warmers, nothing more. He never stays with the same woman, and although there are plenty of women who want to be his old lady, he wants none of that.

He doesn’t date.
He doesn’t let chicks ride on the back of his bike.
He doesn’t fall in love.

And that suits him just fine until he meets her whose eyes light a fire in him. Problem is she’s not so easy to get into his bed. Hawk wants her. And when Hawk wants something he takes it.

Cara Minelli doesn’t want to go to the biker bar, but her friend talks her into it. Swearing off men since she caught her fiancé cheating on her right before her wedding, she has buried herself in her career not wanting a man in her life. Until she sees him. He is sexy, rough, crude, and oh so very wrong for her. So why can’t she stop thinking of all the nasty things he’ll do to her if she relents and lets him in her bed?

Then a vicious killer who has been strangling women in the area focuses on Cara. Police think bikers are involved. Can Cara set aside her trust issues and let Hawk into her life?

Hawk sees it as his job to protect what is his…and Cara is very much his even if she doesn’t know it yet. Cara keeps her heart guarded, but when danger comes calling, their lives collide. Hawk will stop at nothing to keep Cara safe and make her “Property of Hawk”.

Review:

Hawk’s mug shot is the one pictured next to the definition of bad*ss outlaw biker in the dictionary. He’s the handsomely muscled, broad-shouldered, inked-up sex-on-a-stick alpha dude that has the hoodrats and club sluts lined up at his door. As usual, Chiah Wilder does a great job writing an MC romance – it reads easy, very few distracting errors and all the twists and turns and sub-plots tie up seamlessly by the end – and there are a fair share of twists and turns in this one! The human sex trafficking element was graphic and poignantly handled.

This is the third Insurgents MC book I’ve read, so taking that into consideration, it may be that this reason plays into my review a bit. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely have read the series in order! For me, this book seemed to drag on…and on. Cara and Hawk did a lot of bickering back and forth before they finally succumb to their lust for one another…and it seemed to take forever to get past the internal dialogue, bickering and denial. Thankfully the plot finally speeds up when it’s time to hit the final quarter of the book. At that point, it’s game on and the plot thickens, the romance heats up, the sex gets steamier and their relationship evolves. She still doesn’t listen and one would think she would have figured that out by then that she can get herself into trouble if she doesn’t play by the MC rules. This is definitely a suspenseful story, and when the murderer is finally identified, it may take a few readers by surprise. Hawk and Cara are both very strong characters: Hawk has been shaped by an extremely unsettling childhood and Cara is driven to help those who cannot help themselves, regardless of the danger it may put her in. As a couple, their strength fans the flames of their desire. Surprisingly, one of my favorite scenes in the book was the spaghetti dinner at Cara’s house.

Recommend?

Yes – but be prepared for a l-o-n-g read. Also, if you haven’t read any of the other Insurgents MC books in the series, start with this one. The rest will make more sense and flow better background-wise.
